So the issue that I have with the dreaded self-portrait is that I'm not overly enthusiastic about looking at myself in the mirror. I think most of us have this problem. I'm not going to launch into a long spiel about self-confidence and all that but needless to say, looking at yourself for an extended period of time definitely proves challenging.
This week I've been working on a larger scale portrait of the human face (my sister kindly agreed to pose for me). If you saw my post last week then you'll know that I'm working towards a final piece of sorts - this drawing is a work in progress but it should be finished by next week. I'm definitely feeling more comfortable moving away from celebrity drawings, although it does still take some getting used to.
So if you've been reading my blog, you will know that I've been thinking about moving away from my usual celebrity drawings and focussing on art that is closer to home. This is for a number of reasons - mainly the fact that I like the idea of composing a drawing from start to finish, including setting the scene and taking the photographs. I'm also one of those people who likes to change things up every once in a while, so it makes sense that this is reflected in my artwork.
